Wind vane

A wind vane is an instrument for determining the direction of the wind. It is generally installed on a pole about 10 meters high from the ground in an open area. Under the action of wind pressure, the arrow of the wind marker indicates the direction of the wind. A weather vane is basically an asymmetrically shaped object with a center of gravity fixed on a vertical axis. When the wind blows, the end that creates greater resistance to air flow will turn downwind, indicating the direction of the wind. The arrow of the wind vane always points to the source of the wind.

The shape of the wind vane can be divided into four parts: tail wing, balance hammer, pointing rod and rotating shaft. Wind speed and direction are measured using a magnetically sensitive wind speed cup and a wind vane respectively. The magnetic cup usually has three symmetrical cups, fixed on a vertical axis, so that the diameter surface of each cup is vertical.
